"...the Dry River Boys are carrying on the tradition in right style. They have the energy and drive of a seasoned bluegrass band."
Out of a small town in southern Manitoba come the Dry River Boys, a young energetic bluegrass band playing a fiery brand of hard-driving bluegrass. The band has been performing together since January of 1994. Each new year has brought bigger and better success for the Dry River Boys.
The heart of the band Joe Teichroeb, Kevin Elias, Calvin Klassen and Alvin Elias. Some performances also see them being joined by Raymond Klassen on the dobro.
The guitar is handled by Joe Teichroeb. His complex guitar solos often bring rousing applause from the audience. His soulful lead vocals enhance the driving style of the band.
Kevin Elias is one of two founding members of the band, (along with Joe Teichroeb still with the band). His inventive, clean mandolin breaks are a trademark of the band and an inspiration to the other bandmates. Kevin's spontaneous sense of humor on stage is another asset he provides for the band.
Calvin Klassen provides a solid sense of timing and fitting runs on the acoustic bass. Calvin sings tenor, and has helped the band with variety in their song selection.
Alvin Elias is one of the most tasteful banjo players in the country, combining solid traditional banjo with a modern flair for the original.
Raymond Klassen is by far the youngest member of the band, but has incredible skill and taste on the dobro.
The Dry River Boys repertoire has slowly grown into a lineup of some of the best songs available today, encompassing the whole spectrum of emotion through the original compositions of Kevin Elias, combined with thoughtful renditions of hard-driving bluegrass.
A key asset of the band is the excellent instrumentation displayed in each song regardless of tempo and feeling each song requires. The obvious conclusion one draws upon hearing and seeing this band is the prominent dedication and goal of professionalism. The Dry River Boys are equally adept at wrapping their warm harmonies around any tune, and making it their own.
"This young band continues to grow in experience and skill and is becoming a real force on the bluegrass scene. A lot more will be heard from them in the future." |
